Remodeling a Kitchen from the Ground Up

Posted by Carl on Nov 24, 2008 in Good Going

I remember when we bought our first house, how much work we needed to do and how much fun it was going to be getting to remodel every square inch of the place because it was ours. We had previously lived in a rental and you didn’t dare do too much to fix it up because that money wasn’t going to come back with you. Back when we were renting a home, it didn’t matter what condition things were in, fixing them up would be a waste of money since we didn’t own the house. When you finally own your own home, the freedom to do whatever you want is truly liberating. It can also be expensive.

The kitchen was by far the largest task ahead of us. It still had open studs, an uneven floor and a gap in the floor so wide you could see down to the dirt below. The wiring was from the 1930′s, old knob and tube that was horribly dangerous and very exposed. It’s a good thing we weren’t using an FHA loan because they never would have approved it. I’m amazed the inspectors didn’t care, for some reason they made us put vinyl siding on the garage because that wasn’t finished, but they didn’t care at all about the disasterous and dangerous state of the kitchen.

We did a lot of research on various topics related to kitchen remodeling, especially kitchen cabinet hardware because we were doing it ourselves and wanted to do it right the first time.

After gutting the entire kitchen, and I mean all of it, we rebuilt it from the bottom up. That meant I got to pick out new kitchen cabinets, and any appliances we needed due to ours being a bit old. Let me tell you, designing a kitchen from the bottom up is harder than you’d think. We worked with the designers at Menards, who helped us consider appliance placement, traffic patterns, cabinet styles and sizes, and guided us to buy during the best sale so we could get a free sink base and a huge discount on the cabinets themselves. We even got down to the nitty gritty items like kitchen cabinet knobs and drawer inserts.

It was fun. I hope I don’t have to do it again for a while, and cooking in our living room was incredibly difficult. We did most of the work ourselves, actually I think we did all of it ourselves, even hanging the cabinets, so it probably took a little longer than if professionals were there. After eight years I still love it, plus it came out looking so nice!

Stop smoking programs can help smokers to quit

Posted by Carl on Nov 24, 2008 in Good Going

The majority of people who smoke try to give up their smoking habit at one time or another. Everyone these days is very well aware that smoking is a serious long-term risk to a smoker’s health. And if living a longer life is not enough incentive for a smoker to make the effort to stop smoking completely, then there are always the financial and social incentives.

Most western countries impose high taxation on cigarettes and tobacco products with two main aims. Firstly, to raise as much money as possible from what is essentially a drug addiction; and secondly to make smokers give up their habit because it costs so much. A heavy smoker easily spends around $3000 each year in a high taxation country such as the UK. The current economic downturn in the USA, UK and Europe means that many smokers are forced to quit smoking (or at the very least cut down) to be able to afford the large recent increases in food, petrol, heating plus rent or mortgage costs.

Socially, cigarette smoking is no longer considered an acceptable practice. Legislation has been passed in most developed countries that severely restricts where smokers can indulge their habit. Just about all restaurants, bars, public transport, hire cars, public buildings and workplaces are completely smoke-free.

All of these factors now mean that more smokers than ever are seeking help to quit smoking. There are numerous stop smoking products available (such as nicotine patches and gum) as well as various stop smoking programs.

These programs are usually run by health authorities, doctor’s surgeries and hospitals, and have a very high success rate in helping even the most addicted smoker give up their habit.

Inbound Links – Get Quality Inbound Links

Posted by Carl on Nov 24, 2008 in Good Going

The use of article marketing is still the number one way to get more people to visit your website and one that won’t cost a cent! This is an easy process of using the article, which has a back link at the bottom, to send people who have read it to a website that has more information. It is a simple matter to submit your article to these places which should, wherever possible, be popular websites; within a relatively short period you should start to experience more visitors at your site. Acceptance of content at sites like this is a little like a ‘thumbs up’ to you as well and can be of great benefit; do not underestimate the power of trust in the online world.

This process of article marketing by submission to various sites, if carried out routinely, will ensure people read more of your work and actively look for it as your reputation grows. Showing people you are knowledgeable on certain topics means they will trust whatever you write and bookmark your site. Although it can take a while, this traffic from people that trust you will help your own search engine ranking; as your ranking grows, there will be even more visitors to your site. If there are many websites which link with your website then it increases your website ranking which in turn boost up your traffic gaining. all at no charge, so free advertising is possible.

A number of links to other relevant sites can be placed in the body text (not too many) when using article marketing. The purpose of good articles is for people to use them on their site, with each having the links to your site contained in them which all helps the ranking. Just how quickly you will visited by a search engine and listed can vary enormously from a day to months! The process can be speeded up a little if the sites where the articles are submitted are popular and you continue to write and submit articles.

Article marketing helps to improving the ranking of a site but in addition to this it also helps increase the amount of content at the same time which again improves rank. Don’t forget that many visitors to your site are not visiting to buy something. Visitors are searching for information so the more precise and truthful you can be about whatever it is you are promoting the better. It is once they have entered your site where you have the chance to sell to them. Doing it this way ensures the visitor is not mislead and is happy to be shown what you are selling. It is this sort of method that stops people from cancelling their order a few days later.

If you continue your article marketing this way you can expect a profitable future; this process must be repeated on a regular basis for it to work. An additional benefit from writing quality articles is that other website owners will either link to your site or use your articles on their own site; don’t forget, your article will contain information that people are searching for. With the many ways to drive visitors to your site, article marketing is still the most efficient; all you need is to keep supplying them with the information they are looking for in the form of articles.
