Good Going
My next door neighbour, Clare, is what you would call a ‘big’ girl. She loves her fast food, chocolates, biscuits, crisps ….in fact just about anything that adds the pounds and kilos to her weight. And to make matters worse, she hardly ever walks anywhere but prefers to drive instead.
So it’s not surprising that about 3 months ago, she felt that her weight was getting out of control and she needed to do something about it.
Did she take up jogging? Or go down to our local gym? Nope – she decided to buy a Wii console!
She claimed that because the Wii had some new-fangled controls that didn’t just involve pressing buttons like other games consoles, but that actually required you to put in some effort to play games, then she’d lose weight.
Needless to say, her husband and I were not convinced and thought that this was just another one of Clare’s mad ideas (that she does have a reputation for coming out with!).
With her Wii console, she also got something called a Wii Fit that looked like one of those step blocks used in gyms for step aerobics. Clare said that this connected to the Wii console and came with a Keep Fit game that had her doing various exercises every day.
The software also kept a record of her weight, body-mass index and improvements in her performance of doing the exercise schedules.
Clare stuck to her new “exercise regime” and I would often pop round for a chat in the afternoon and find her red-faced and breathless from having just completed on of her sessions.
And the result?
Well, in the past month, she’s lost an impressive 14lbs (6.4 kilos for those of you who’ve gone metric) and it’s very noticeable. We are all impressed (even though she does keep saying “I told you so”). You can find the Wii Fit for sale on eBay at bargain prices. I’m definitely going to get one to get fitter and in shape.

Drawing up a plan of action is your first task when preparing for training a puppy, as it will help a great deal in the transition for your new puppy to his new strange new world from his comfy and secure home with his mother. It is a very stressful and worrying event for a puppy when his mother and littermates suddenly disappear, and he finds himself in new and unfamiliar surroundings where there is nothing but unfamiliar people and strange smells.
These emotions don’t just apply to young puppies. It happens with older dogs to – they can get depressed by the upheaval when moved to new homes. An adopted adult dog has no idea of all the wonderful plans you may have in store for him; he just sees a new and quite worrying place with none of his friends.
If humanly possible, take a few trips to meet your pup while he’s still at his “old place”. Doing this will help break the ice between you both and help him get used to you. The benefit of taking this approach is that when you begin to look at, train a puppy he’ll learn a lot quicker as he’ll already be friends with you. I appreciate this is not always possible so, you could ask the old owner for something from the dog’s bed, such as a cushion or familiar toy or any other item he recognizes that will help him settle down and adjust to his new home.
Without doubt, the ideal time to bring home a new dog or puppy is when you will be at home for a few days on the trot. This way you’ll always be there while he’s finding his feet. A summer vacation is perfect, but only if you can plan on being home for the summer. Please don’t move you dog in, then home him in kennels while you go on vacation. You need to have at least a couple of days at home and help the newcomer get over his homesickness blues.
When we bring a new baby home, we make heaps of preparations and fill the home with everything we think the baby will need for a happy and healthy start, training a puppy is just the same. Having a different number of legs shouldn’t mean you get less priority.

Using air conditioning during the hot summer is much better than using a ceiling fan or open windows. An air conditioning unit can help to cool off an entire apartment, condominium or house in a matter of minutes. Many people don’t know that a badly functioning air conditioning unit can contribute to high energy bills. The problems associated with a faulty air conditioning unit can be avoided with proper maintenance and a quick check of the unit before the start of the summer months.
It is never easy to tell when is the perfect time to repair or replace a major appliance and figuring out when to do so with an air conditioning unit is the same thing. Before repairing a unit yourself, always unplug it and insure it has been completely discharged. If you do not follow these steps, you could be electrocuted. The decision needs to be made whether to repair the unit or replace it after giving it a once over.
By listening to an appliance run or looking at its insides, most can differentiate between being able to repair it or needing to replace it. Occasionally you just have to replace the fan or filter. Sometimes the equipment makes an incessant humming noise that simply can’t be corrected. When that occurs, you need a new unit.
There are a number of issues that can occur resulting in malfunctioning of air conditioning units which will lead to higher electricity bills. Among those problems is the fact that the equipment runs continuously. You will be comfortable once the room is attached with Daytona beach air conditioning. (for window air conditioners) You can attach the air conditioning in the hall only or the entire house. for central air is no longer warm , ensure that you either increase the heat or lower it by means of the cool saver plus setting . A programmable thermostat will keep your home cool at an acceptable level, only starting the air conditioning unit when the temperature climbs too high. Once you set the temperature, the unit will not operate again until the room temperature climbs over what you want.
Old air filters are another cause of excessive energy consumption with this type of appliance. Air conditioning filters should be replaced every two years, since they become clogged with dust and dirt. As because it needs to work harder to pump the air through the filter, this causes the appliance to run more often.
Air conditioning units vary in the amount of electricity they consume. A small window unit uses approximately 500-1,400 watts of electricity. If your home uses central air conditioning for much of the summer months, your appliance will consume approximately 3,500 watts of electricity in order to cool off your whole home. If you notice a large fluctuation in your power bill, it could be because of your air conditioning unit, even if it seems fine. Call Daytona Beach Air Conditioning to get help with your home repairs.
