Thankfully, there are hundreds of them all over the world that you can apply to, some even witha their presence on the internet.

If you are thinking engineering school is a walk in the park, think again. These schools take up several years of your life to turn you into a calculating machine. It is by no means a joke getting through them. You might want to begin working out your strategy already. I assure you, if you don’t give it what it takes, you will not get what you want from it, which is your engineering degree.

Whatever form of engineering you are interested in doing, you can be a pro at it after you have been through engineering school. By the time you have been grilled and passed through the mill, you come out hardened and uncompromising. And when you work on anything engineering, you perform that much better. It is a fact you can bet on.

The care of the environment is not just biology or science, it also involves engineering. That is why there are environmental engineers who make developing the environment through engineering a possibility. You will find a lot of them went through engineering school as well. There just is no way you want half baked individuals handling things that lives of lots of people will depend on.

There are so many opportunities available in engineering that it is a wonder there aren’t many more people pinning for it. It must be the fear of engineering schools; and I don’t blame them. If you had to go through that, you will understand how and why. They do numbers and figure till their ears fall off. I have nothing but respect for those who are able to survive it.

A Guide to Installing House Shutters

Posted by Carl on Oct 24, 2009 in Good Going

If you have basic carpentry skills and know how to use a level you may be able to install your own house shutters.  If you would rather have someone else do the job, you may want to employ a carpenter to install some shutters on your home.  However, installing house shutters is relatively easy and can be done by most do-it-yourselfers.

Do not be intimidated at the thought of installing your own house shutters.  If others can accomplish this simple job, so can you.  You simply need to understand the basics.  There are two recommended ways to install your shutters.  You can pick an inside mount or an outside mount.  It is easiest to install an inside mount because it can be accomplished directly from your open window.

Inside mount installation

When you perform an inside mount installation, the shutter is mounted flush with the inside of the window opening on the window jamb.  This is normally a better process of installation and is much preferred by carpenters because it is neater and needs no framing strips.

The window jamb should be solid.  Next, you should attach the shutter hardware with screws.  To do this, drill a hole through the jamb at the appropriate areas so that the hardware can be attached into the window jamb.  The jamb should be solid so that the screws will be secure.

Now that you have screwed on the hardware, you need to make sure that the shutters align properly with the window.  You might use a level to insure that they are lined up. Follow the enclosed literature as each type of inside mounted shutter is attached differently.  If you can use an electric drill, you will be able to quickly perform an inside mount for your shutters.

Outside mount installation

Understandably, an outside mount attaches to the outside of the window, most often into the trim, and sometimes the wall.  If you are using an outside mount for interior shutters, avoid having to screw the hardware into sheetrock unless it is anchored as the unit will simply come out of the wall.  Some people prefer an outside mount because you can be a little “off” when it comes to the measurements, which you just can’t do with an inside mount. Of course this means that the outside mount does not look as neat as the inside mount.

Remember to use a level when installing house shutters in order to ensure that your shutters are straight.  Your eyes can play tricks on you, but a level will not.  You will need an electric drill, a set of apexes, and also toggles if you are installing into drywall without a stud.

Do not think you can’t install your house shutters yourself.  This is not a difficult job and after you have installed one piece, the rest will come very easily.  All you need are the required tools, which are a screwdriver, drill, toggle mounts (if installing into drywall) and a level, you will be able to do this job easily and within a short period of time.
